Oundle 27, Stags 17

Stags travelled to Oundle for what is generally always a tough encounter but reasonably confident. Unfortunately Stags Achilles heal, non availability and late cry offs, resurfaced and the back division that scored 8 tries in their last game was minus 3 of the previous starting line up.

Stags started the stronger of the 2 teams and really should have scored from territory and possession gained by the dominant forwards. Unfortunately the Oundle line could not be breached and from their 1st visit to the Stags 22 they came away with a converted try after a mistake in the back division. The Stags forwards then disappointingly went to sleep and allowed another “soft” try in the corner from the Oundle forwards.

Finally Stags got in to the game with the last play of the half as Will Baghat (the pick of the backs) scored in the corner after previously having another try controversially disallowed by the ref.

Half time 12-5.

Stags then found theirselves another score down within 5 mins of the restart after poor tackling and communication let in another “soft” try. This seemed to wake the Stags up and led by MoM, by some distance, Liam Findley the forwards began too get their pick and drive going. Liam benefitting twice to score his first and second tries for the club as the scores were leveled at 17-17.

We sensed victory was on the cards however pretty much from the re-start the classy Oundle Fly half outpaced the covering defence to score an excellent try.The final try from the Oundle No. 8 picking up from the base of the scrum and scoring without a hand touching him pretty much summed up the day.

Final score.
27-17.
